Toad in the Hole (click here to open)

1 cupful flour,

1 egg,

1 cupful milk,

 Pinch of Salt and pepper,

1 teaspoonful baking powder,

2 tablespoonfuls of oil,

6 Sausages.

Put the flour in a bowl with the salt and pepper  and make a well in the centre, break the egg and put it in with a quarter of the milk. Beat well, then add the rest of the milk slowly, stirring all the time while adding the rest of the milk then put to one side to rest do not add the baking power at this time. Take a saucepan the size to cook the sausages and half fill with water bring to the boil then turn down to a simmer pick the sausages and put into the saucepan and simmer for 15mins then remove and cut them into halves, now take a oven dish as deep as the batter will come up half way in the dish, put the oil into the dish a place into a hot oven  for 2 to 3mins to heat the oil now lay the sausages in the dish now place back in the oven for 2 to 3mins more, in the mean while add the baking power to the batter and mix well remove the dish from the oven and pour in the batter, place the dish back into the oven and bake for 20mins without opening the oven door after 20mins check if it is golden and has risen it is ready to serve if not leave 10mins more and serve.
